In May 2026, the Delaney Hall detention facility in Newark, New Jersey, became the site of major protests amid allegations of inhumane treatment of individuals held in ICE custody.

For more than two weeks, protesters, ICE agents, and state and local police clashed outside the facility. Inside, those in custody went on hunger and labor strikes to protest the conditions under which they were being held.

These photographs were taken on May 30, 2026, during a night of intense clashes outside the facility.
