Thomas Hengge is a documentary, commercial, and editorial photographer and video journalist based in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Currently, he works as a freelancer where his work spans from breaking news and long form documentary projects to E-commence and public relations. He also teaches multimedia journalism at NYU.
Prior to beginning his freelance career, for years Thomas worked as a staff photographer for Hearst Magazines across Runner’s World, Popular Mechanics, Bicycling Magazine, and Best Products. He has also worked for the Philadelphia Inquirer as a Staff Photographer and Video Journalist on contract through Military Veterans in Journalism.
His photographs and videos have been published in TIME, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Associated Press, The Guardian, Sports Illustrated, Runner’s World Magazine, Popular Mechanics, Bicycling Magazine, The Sunday Times, PBS Newshour and more.
Thomas is a United States Army infantry veteran, graduate of Fordham University, and earned an MA in journalism from New York University.
When he is not making photos or videos, he is probably riding his bicycle, or writing about himself in the third person.
